MECI Group continues to play a constructive role in advancing renewable energy development in Iran, focusing on projects with strong technical foundations and licensed local partners. Our involvement includes a significant 270 MW wind farm project in northern Iran, where turbine testing has been underway for several years prior to MECI’s participation.
It is important to clarify that MECI has signed formal agreements to take over projects from parties holding the necessary government licenses and existing power purchase agreements. Contrary to some public reports, MECI’s role is that of a project developer and facilitator, building on prior groundwork rather than initiating entirely new contracts directly with government entities.
Recent public attention, including from advocacy groups, has heightened caution among all stakeholders, encouraging greater transparency and diligence. This environment has not halted progress; rather, it has underscored the need for prudent financial structuring and compliance.
While details and partnerships may evolve, the momentum behind renewable energy projects in Iran remains strong. MECI is also actively pursuing complementary renewable energy initiatives, including solar power developments, as part of our broader ambition to contribute up to 1 gigawatt of clean energy capacity in the country.
